About Julie
Julie started baking cakes when she was 10 years old. As a teenager she won blue ribbons at the NC State Fair. She has worked for three caterers, one bakery and more than 10 restaurants. She has created several of her own recipes. Friends have encouraged her for years to open a bakery.
She has had a lifelong love affair with sweets and when she was a child she spent all of her allowance on candy. Both of her grandmothers were amazing bakers and her mother couldn’t bake a box cake. She had to start baking when she was 10 years old if the family wanted a birthday cake.
When not baking cakes, Julie works at Journey Church, teaches, hunts, reads, exercises and travels. She’s lived all over the world, even Russia and Ukraine, and most recently traveled to Uganda on a mission trip. She grew up in Raleigh and now she has settled in Oxford on the family farm.
The Cakery Story
Your perfect cake…what would it look like? What would it taste like? A cake designed and created just for you, made from the highest quality ingredients, and it would taste as mouthwatering as it looks. You can hardly wait to cut a piece and dig in. And when you take a bite…heaven. You’re already looking forward to having another piece. Where did this perfect cake come from? Why, Julie’s Cakery, of course.
When Julie was 10 years old, she really wanted a piece of cake and her mother had no idea how to make one, but said that there was a box of cake mix in the cabinet. “No,” Julie said. “I want a real cake.” So they used one of Julie’s grandmother’s old recipes… French vanilla with chocolate icing. Julie’s mother said that it was the best cake she’d ever had, which was high praise indeed, considering that Julie’s grandmothers were both excellent bakers in their own right. Two years later, Julie went on to win a blue ribbon for her chocolate pound cake at the North Carolina State Fair in the Junior Division.
Friends wanted Julie’s cakes, then churches and restaurants, and even brides wanted Julie to create their wedding cakes. Julie loved baking so much that she happily did it for free, until she decided to turn her passion into her profession.
Over the years, Julie has brought her talents to several catering companies and restaurants around the country. For years, her friends and customers told her she should open her own cakery and finally, she did. Now she creates unique, amazing desserts that taste as wonderful as they look. And that’s saying a lot!
Julie doesn’t just create fabulous cakes. She also makes cheesecakes, brownies, muffins, pies, cupcakes and banana pudding – to name a few. Julie creates scrumptious desserts for events and restaurants all over the Raleigh-Durham and Oxford areas, and she’s delivered her magnificent creations just about everywhere – from the beaches of the Carolinas to the hills of Tennessee. Whatever and wherever your event, Julie will create a unique dessert experience for you and your guests.
That’s her mission: Since many get-togethers end with desserts, Julie wants to create that perfect ending to a perfect occasion.
